Saturday night ended earlier than I was ready for… On the way home I was just about to pass My Cousin Vinny’s and realized that this would be the perfect time to check it out. (Been meaning to for months now) Now, if you don’t know the joint, it’s a tiny white building just east of Sahara & Maryland Pkwy. They have those life size cut outs of famous people that stand up against the wall, oh yeah, and they proudly serve vets. When I walked in I was a little creped out by the mannequins standing in various places around the bar. That was quickly replaced with the friendly atmosphere. The bartender greeted us like we came in every night, so we slid up to the bar and ordered a round. It was karaoke night and the crowd (all 15 of them) were laughing and having a good time. This is the way karaoke should be done! There was none of that “livin’ the dream” shit goin’ on here, just a bunch of friends kickin’ it and having a laugh. They were picking each other’s songs, “What fun is it if you know what you’re gonna sing!” the bartender yelled out. In my opinion, she was right. They also had several sing along rounds where the whole bar sang the chorus with those on stage. The most amazing part of the evening was when Josh, a primary on the mic., sang Mack the Knife. We were waiting for another round of good hearted humor when we found out that boy could SING! If you’re looking for a clean flashy place, don’t stop by, but if you just want a comfy place to hang where the drinks are poured strong with an eclectic atmosphere, stop by My Cousin Vinny’s.
